We had a dinner party the other week, and it was a tight fit. Our apartment is small(ish), the living room especially, and I think the coffee table only emphasises it.

The first and, so far, last time I’ve ever been to New Malden was to pick up this bad boy. New Malden is far. You have to take a real train, not just the Underground, and for a girl who rarely goes even as south as Peckham, this was a trek. But it was 2021, we had just moved into this slightly larger apartment after a year of global confinement, and I wanted to go somewhere far.

We also finally had what I always felt like makes up a ‘real’ living room – a sofa with two armchairs facing each other. It called for a lovely coffee table to center around, but our previous (homemade) one, alas, was too big.

And so we over-corrected. This was also at a time when space-age-y plastic furniture was really on the rise again, and I couldn’t get enough of those Kartell side tables, so when we saw the Usame by Patricia Urquiola for Kart…
